Write with us

Write something worth putting in front of a decision.

Practitioners, researchers and authors can write for Wrong Default Media in two ways: a piece of your own, under your byline, or a paper written with us.

No money changes hands in either direction, and the work stays yours. The terms are below, and they are the same for everyone. Every proposal gets an answer in writing, yes or no, with a reason.

Two ways to write

A guest piece, under your name

One argument, made with evidence, for the people who own the decision. It runs as a guest edition of The Wrong Default, the imprint's weekly newsletter, under your byline, and it is listed on the index.

A paper, written together

A longer piece, co-authored with Wrong Default Media, where your field and ours meet: an accountability gap one side has seen up close and the other can carry to the people who decide. It is published as a Wrong Default Media paper, with every author named.

How it goes

  1. 01

    You send the argument

A claim, not a topic, and what would carry it. A draft is welcome. It is not needed.

  2. 02

    An answer in writing

Yes or no, with a reason. No promise on how fast, and no answer that is just silence.

  3. 03

For a paper, agree the shape first

Before anyone drafts, we agree by email on the author order, who writes what, and roughly when.

  4. 04

    Edited, then your sign-off

You see every change. Nothing goes out until you have approved the final text.

  5. 05

It runs, and it is listed

The guest edition or the paper is published, and it goes on the index like everything else.

Contributor terms

Nothing to sign: these are the terms for every guest piece and every co-authored paper. The house rules on the network page apply to the writing itself.

No money either way
Nothing is paid for a piece and nothing is charged to publish one. A place in the newsletter or on the index cannot be bought.
Your rights stay yours
You keep the copyright. You give Always Questioning LLC, which publishes as Wrong Default Media, a non-exclusive license to publish the piece, keep it in the archive, and quote from it to point people to it. Non-exclusive means you can republish it anywhere, at any time. A line saying where it first ran is welcome, not required.
Your byline
Your name, a short bio and one link of your choice, on the piece and on its listing.
Edited, not rewritten
We edit for clarity, accuracy and the house rules. You see every change and approve the final text. Nothing runs without your sign-off.
The same standard
Every factual claim is checked against its source before it runs. A claim that cannot be verified is not published.
Co-authored papers
Every author is named on the paper. Whoever leads the work is named first, and the order is agreed in writing before drafting starts. The authors hold the copyright together, and each may share, present and republish the paper, credited to all of them.
Relationships disclosed
Any commercial interest in the subject, such as a client, an employer or a product, is disclosed in the piece. So is any connection to Wrong Default Media, Always Questioning or Fellowship Intelligence.
Corrections
If something published turns out to be wrong, we tell you first. Then the correction is published, dated, and left next to the original.
Coming down
Write to [email protected] and the archive copy and the listing are removed within ten business days. A newsletter edition that has already been emailed cannot be unsent.
No obligation, on either side
Sending a proposal creates no relationship between us, and a yes is not a date.

Propose a piece or a paper

A paragraph is enough to start. Not sure it should be written by you? Send it as an idea instead.

What is the claim, rather than the topic? "AI governance" is a topic. "Most AI risk is an accountability failure, not a technology failure" is a claim.

Optional. The cases, data, documents or experience that would carry it, and where you see it from.

Optional. One link is plenty.
